While I didn’t realize it at the time, the best compliment I’ve ever been given, professionally, is that I am direct. A former manager once told it to me, likely not meaning it as a compliment. However, my job is in communications and it hurt. It felt like I was being told that I didn’t know how to communicate.
What I have come to realize is that professionally, directness is an asset. It is a way of getting your point across, respectfully, and has allowed me to reach a level of success I never would have without that trait. In fact, in the world of marketing, public relations and communications, it is something that I think m
